Reinterpretation of Space: From Workshop to Contemporary Home

Location Zaprešić, Year 2024 Status Completed

This single-story house, once divided between a carpenter’s workshop and a residential area, has been transformed into a cohesive space tailored to contemporary living. The primary goal of the renovation was to establish a seamless spatial connection—not only horizontally but also vertically—creating an open, fluid interior filled with natural light.

Materials play a crucial role in defining the atmosphere. Instead of traditional rustic elements, the design embraces a refined interpretation of natural materials: black and white veneer introduces warmth and texture, polished concrete provides a strong yet understated structural presence, while neutral tones enhance the simplicity and tranquility of the space.

The spatial organisation has been redefined to accommodate modern living. Previously separate functional zones are now seamlessly integrated into a unified volume, with subtle transitions between areas and unobstructed visual axis. The double-height layout further amplifies the sense of openness, ensuring both visual and physical connectivity across the home.

The result is a home that retains the essence of its past while, through a fresh interpretation of space and materials, evolving into a contemporary, simple, and functional environment for everyday living.
